BDSM and fetish motifs
Symbols
Ring of O as Finger ring
BDSM and fetish motifs have in everyday life of Western societies spread by such diverse factors as avant-garde fashion, Rap, Hip-hop, heavy metal, science fiction television series and feature films ever and are used by many people already not aware of their BDSM roots brought together. The use of piercings is now, after she was confined mainly in the 1980s to the punk and BDSM scene, also no longer purely a typical scene, but wide spread in the population.
The Leather Pride flag is a symbol that stands next to the leather movement also becoming more common for the BDSM scene. The Anglo-Saxon common Triskelion called BDSM emblem is found in the German speaking countries rather rare. The so-called Ring of O is also reflected in the goth scene, and costume jewelry.
Prejudices
There are many prejudices, clichés and stereotypes about BDSM in public. Misunderstandings are not uncommon, resulting from the fact that "vanillas" do not distinguish between BDSMler like real life and the practice of BDSM. Some go so expect that too submissive in BDSM in real life like pain and humiliation would learn, and that are dominant in everyday life as well as dominant in BDSM. Conversely, says another myth, dominant and submissive in BDSM would be practicing exactly the opposite of her real life - so are the customers most successful business men of dominatrixes. Both positions are one-sided. Between the position in everyday life and BDSM play can be, but there is no connection.
